Youth Nutrition/Physical Activity

Media Smart Youth: Eat, Think and Be Active!
Media Smart Youth is available to Macomb and St. Clair County Middle Schools.

Media Smart Youth: Eat, Think, and Be Active is a program that helps young people understand the complex media world around them. It focuses on building media analysis and media production skills to help young people understand the connections between media and health. The National Institutes of Health Nutrition Education Sub- Committee and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services reviewed and approved the curriculum. 250 young people participated in the pilot test of this curriculum while providing insights and ideas to better the lessons. Youth are exposed to over 40,000 commercials a year that focus primarily on candy, cereal, and fast food. Learning the correct ideas about the recommended daily amount of vegetables, fruit, grains, trans- fat, and others are invaluable to today's youth.
